Update on the Move

by The Spinning Guy

We have an apartment and we are all moved in and settled in we have all our boxes and belongings crammed into our own apartment. We’re here safe and sound and we have our own place only a couple of blocks from work.

Moving from a 2100+ square foot house with four acres, sheds, and outbuildings to a 1000 square foot apartment is a challenge. Yes, we Pam had the usual moving sales, made the usual charitable donations, and threw a lot of stuff away. Then we threw more stuff away. Then we gave more stuff away, sold a little more, and threw away even more.

What’s left almost fits in the apartment.

To get it all in, however, the movers left the guest bed mattress vertical against the wall in the guest bedroom to make space for boxes. Unfortunately, after they put all the boxes in the guest bedroom, they brought in the box spring for the guest bed – and left it vertical as well. Between the two are something over 350 cubic feet of boxes – boxes stacked about as high as I can reach. Getting at boxes to unpack them means working around this box spring that’s currently making a huge wall. Unpacking will be a slow process.

Finding places to put the unpacked items wil be an even slower process. The kitchen here is smaller than the island in our old kitchen – with proportionately less cabinet space. Our house had a laundry room. This apartment has a laundry closet – and while said laundry closet currently contains the washer and freezer, the dryer is currently in the middle of the kitchen until we can get a stacking kit for the washer.

My spinning wheel is here. It’s safe in the closet and I can get to it. My fiber stash is here, too. It’s in a box somewhere in the guest bedroom.
