Introducing Upper Alpacas Amelia
We are no longer in the day to day business of raising alpacas, but we still own a few. This means that we don’t sit cria watch and don’t see cria being born. However, we do still have cria, we still get excited about cria, but we have to go visit them.
Amelia was born September 12th. We got back from vacation mid-afternoon and unpacked before an evening commitment. When we returned from our evening, a message about our new cria was waiting.

Immediately after my dentist appointment on the 13th — with my mouth still numb — we piled back into the car and drove to meet Amelia

She was born a little on the small side and spent most of her first days resting. Of course, all cria do a lot of resting those first few days.
She’s cute!
Amelia is about eighteen hours old in these pictures. She looks brown and white in the pictures, but she has a very striking rose gray stripe down her spine and some obvious rose gray spots. We think she’s rose gray all over, but we didn’t disturb her enough to make sure.
