Introducing Upper Alpacas Amelia

by The Spinning Guy

We are no longer in the day to day business of raising alpacas, but we still own a few. This means that we don’t sit cria watch and don’t see cria being born. However, we do still have cria, we still get excited about cria, but we have to go visit them.

Amelia was born September 12th. We got back from vacation mid-afternoon and unpacked before an evening commitment. When we returned from our evening, a message about our new cria was waiting.

Upper Alpacas Amelia, at about eighteen hours old, stands alert with her mother in the background.

Immediately after my dentist appointment on the 13th — with my mouth still numb — we piled back into the car and drove to meet Amelia

Upper Alpacas Amelia with her mother, Jubilee.

She was born a little on the small side and spent most of her first days resting. Of course, all cria do a lot of resting those first few days.

An exhausted cria, Upper Alpacas Amelia is a cute, sleeping, baby.

She’s cute!

Eighteen hour old cria, Upper Alpacas Amelia, in a cute pose.

Amelia is about eighteen hours old in these pictures. She looks brown and white in the pictures, but she has a very striking rose gray stripe down her spine and some obvious rose gray spots. We think she’s rose gray all over, but we didn’t disturb her enough to make sure.

RisėShe is adorable! As soon as I saw her I knew she was a rose grey even though the picture looked brown. My first thought was what we would get if she was bred with my rose grey herdsire. LOL. My mind is always on the breeding. As soon as a cria is born here I’m planning it’s breeding future. Congrats on the cria. [originally commented 9/29/2007]
