Crochet Question
I’ve been working on a scarf in the evenings. I’m doing my usual freelance crochet and I have the design in my head. Problem is, I’ve hit a stumbling block and I don’t know quite what to do next. I know what I want to achieve, but I’m not quite sure the stitch I want/need to use to achieve the look.
The pattern I’m working has a little bit of a shell effect. I’m working with the following repeat:
Skip one dc, 2 dc in dc, 2 dc in dc, skip on dc and I’ve been putting the stitches into the central two double crochets of the previous motif to achieve a mild fan on fan look.
I now want to achieve the mirror image look. What I need is essentially an inverse fan stitch. It’s easy to create a fan in crochet by making multiple stitches into a single stitch. I’m having difficulty creating an inverse fan that looks right. Right now, I’m using edc2tog into the fan combined with chain stitches between the fans. It looks ok, but I’m thinking the stitch needs longer legs before the together part.
The other option, of course, is to crochet a second “half” of the scarf just like the first one and then seam the two pieces – something I’d like to avoid because I’m not really a granny square type of guy.
Any suggestions?
