I've Been Spinning

by The Spinning Guy

It’s too cold to do anything outside. Ok, so I’m two years into Alabama winters and already I’ve turned into a weather wimp. By Alabama standards, it is too cold to do anything outside, and we’ve had one day that was pretty cold even by Wisconsin standards – although Wisconsin was still 25 degrees F colder that day. It’s a good time to sit and spin.

You may remember this project, which I had best intentions of completing by June of 2008. I don’t think I ever posted pictures of the bumps of fiber I got back from Mette. There were quite a few of them.

As of Wednesday, this is all that was left.

And this is what my bobbin looked like.

Thursday evening, I finished spinning the singles. All of Anna’s fleece has been spun into singles. Only the plying is left. I might even finish spinning the yarn this weekend.

I have two very full bobbins of singles left to ply. You can see in the picture how full the bobbin is – and I actually put more singles onto that bobbin. Theoretically, I ought to be able to spin that into two very full bobbins of 2-ply yarn. I’m not sure it will work. The singles are slightly overspun, as per my usual technique, and I will add some loft back to the yarn as I counterspin while plying. I’m thinking that additional loft will take up more space on the bobbin, so they yarn might not all fit.

Should I plan on two very full bobbins, or should I decide now that two bobbins won’t work and I need to plan on three less-full bobbins?

That yarn has a nice looking sheen to it. I knit alot with my alpaca handspun yarn. Do you make anything with yours? I seem to remember you were actually knitting some socks?
