In addition to spinning, I have been working on some knitting projects. It’s getting close enough to that time of year where not all will be revealed about knitting. I can, however, offer some hints.
A couple years ago, when I was recovering from surgery, Pam purchased me a set of knitting looms. I’ve used them a few times, but now that I have the basics, I generally prefer needles. one thing the loom does do well at is large, rectangular, lacy objects.

The object will be a wrap or a wide scarf. Yarn is handspun alpaca. Fiber is one of my custom blends. Judging by the texture (and my memory) the base is Drake’s seconds. The other colors are probably from one of the black animals (probably Jubilee or Del) and one of the brown animals (possibly Donovan or a trade fleece.). I love the color of this blend. The fiber is perfect for the technique. It’s not soft, but since a wrap is often worn over clothing, it should be fine. Besides, people wear wool wraps and this is still softer than most wool.
Yes! The answer is yes!
I have been spinning – steadily – if not nearly enough. I’m still working on this fleece. It is a big fleece. I should say it was a big fleece. Some of it is yarn and much of it is singles and the rest is roving. I hate to say it, but I’m getting tired of the fleece. I think Anna produces more fiber than our other alpacas ever did and as nice as the fiber is, it is white – endlessly white There is nothing wrong with white – especially if you want to dye the fiber. I’m just always enjoyed working with natural colors of alpaca. Sorry. No pictures of the yarn. The camera doesn’t seem to be out when the spinning wheel is.
In other news, Anna is a mother. There are several updates and some cute pictures in the blog – just follow the posts. We haven’t managed to visit Anna and her little one yet, but we will get there.
A while back – was it early October? I had intentions of blogging about it – I went to http://www.littlebarninc.com/ for a spinning day. It’s the first time I’ve sat in a spinning circle in a long time. The shop is close to our house. They have spinning circles most Saturdays. I keep intending to return for another spinning day, but Saturdays seem to be busy around here. It was a good group of people to sit and spin with – spinners usually are. I will get back. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
